BCCI is very keen to host the entire IPL in India. ButIf the IPL’s 15th edition cannot be held in India due to Covid, they will shift the tournament to South-Africa.

After hosting IPL 2020 & part of IPL 2021 in United Arab Emirates (UAE), BCCI is not keen to take the IPL to the Emirates nation. The board rather is interested in hosting IPL 2022 in South Africa.

Why the BCCI is not interested to go back to UAE to host IPL?

Reason for being interested in South Africa is two pronged. 1st being that South Africa has proved itself to be a safe venue as they have successfully hosted India tour.

The board has got great feedback from the players & that has made the BCCI interested in exploring South Africa as host of IPL 2022 if it has to be taken out of India.

Second Reason is the hefty fees charged by the Emirates Cricket Board. ECB charged almost 100 Cr to host IPL in 2020 & another 50 Cr to host second half of IPL in 2021.

BCCI is not interested in paying these amounts anymore.

BCCI will discuss the matter with the franchises and finalize South Africa as back up venue for IPL 2022.
